Hello my name is Jesslyn Estes. I am an enrolled member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. I am currently a sophomore at South Dakota State University pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. I became interested in sociology because it looks at people and society’s problems, and I have always wanted to help people who are going through tough situations. Studying sociology will help me understand identity, behaviors, and others’ actions. It will provide me with more information that will help me solve the issues that people are facing every day. The first step in reaching my goal is to attain my bachelor’s degree and once I have done that I plan to pursue my master’s degree. My main goal after graduating is to work with the community members on my reservation or another Tribal based setting. This summer I am returning to The Indian University of North America and I will be interning at the Crazy Horse Memorial.
