Aloha! My name is Joleigh Ballesteros-Magdaro and I’m a Native Hawaiian student from the Island of Hawaii. I’m proud to represent my town and other Native students as I complete a biomedical research internship at the University of Hawaii at Hilo School of Pharmacy. My internship is based on the detection and prevention of Rat Lungworm Disease, which is a life-threatening condition that impacts rural communities like mine throughout the Hawaiian islands. I pride myself on my dedicated service to those around me and work tirelessly to support those in need. My dream is to one day provide culturally informed and influenced healthcare to those who need it in surrounding areas.
